Official Resolution
Enact "Reduction of Reliance on Polluting Energy Sources"
Resolution SS#009
Proposed by: The Board of Directors
Description:
- For all nations to install air scrubbers in polluting power plants, such as coal plants, oil plants, etc.
- For all nations to decrease pollution levels from above power plants by at least 15% within next two (2) years.
- For all nations to begin adopting renewable or cleaner sources of energy, such as wind farms, hydroelectric dams, solar farms, nuclear power plants, etc.
- For all nations to replace 20% of their existing power plants with alternatives (listed in point 2.) in the next 4 years.
Argument:
AWKNOWLEDGING: That developing nations with crippled economies may not be able to instantly begin such work.
KNOWING: That uncontrolled pollution can result in environmental disaster.
KNOWING: That pollution holds health risks for citizens of Sermo.
KNOWING: That such measures have been effective in Sekkisi and have minimal cost to implement.
BELIEVING: That the people and ecosystems of Sermo are at immediate risk from pollution.
BELIEVING: That such measures will secure the future of the region of Sermo and it's people.
NOTING: Recent air samples over the southern region of Sermo have increased levels of polluting substances.
The Sermo Senate hereby enacts resolution #009, "Reduction of Reliance on Polluting Energy Sources"
The Megacorporation of Sekkisi's official standing on SS#009 -FOR.

The Protectorate fully endorses this resolution, and has been following this course of action (despite the costs, as the whole world jumped on the Oil Economy) since the '60s.

Re: Resolution: Reduction of Reliance on Polluting Energy Sources
While the Triumvirate notes the urge from our precursors to try and avoid damming the rivers of Avinistratus, in note of this resolution we shall begin the process of examining the smaller rivers in search of suitable areas for the creation of hydro-electric power stations to supplement the National Grid.
We have attempted to source the majority of electrical power within the National Grid from nuclear means, thus approximately 77% of the power produced in Avinistratus is nuclear sourced. The remaining 33% is divided into 5% hydro-electric, 21% gas-turbine power stations and the remaining 7% is divided between solar and wind power.
We have already inplemented several programs to ensure that the harmful bi-products of the gas-turbine stations are mitigated to such a level that the Avinistratus environment is unaffected by the pollutants. As such, we support this resolution a hundred-percent of the way.

Being mountanous Machiniosa already relies heavily on Geot-thermal and hydro-electric power. However 2 years is nowhere enough time to implement such significant changes thus machiniosa's stance is against.
