Abolition of Space Annexation [SS#012][DISCUSSION, NO VOTING YET]
I, President Michael Newlark of The United Socialist States of Synavia, propose the abolition of the practice of annexing or claiming celestial bodies to a certain nation.
Synavia's official standing on SS#012) - FOR.
Please Discuss. Discussions shall close on Sunday, May 22 at 24:00 Pacific Time.
Voting shall start Sunday, May 22 at 24:00 Pacific Time and end at Sunday, May 27 at 24:00 Pacific Time.
Official Resolution
Enact "Abolition of Space Annexation"
Resolution SS#012
Proposed by: President Michael Newlark
Description: I propose the abolition of the practice of annexing or claiming entire celestial bodies, including, but not limited to, asteroids, moons, and planets, to a certain nation.
Argument:
REALIZING: That as the human race crawls into the Space Age, nations may want to stake their claim in the new frontier,
AWKNOWLEDGING: That claiming entire celestial bodies would be a relatively easy way to gain massive power,
BELIEVING: That large nations holding power over planets and moons would make it difficult for smaller nations to carry out a space program,
NOTING: That space pioneers would benefit from being governed by the nations of Sermo together,
IMPLYING: That the Sermo Senate would be the governing group of any and all Sermoan space voyagers,
HOPING: That having the flag of Sermo planted on a planet, not any country's flag, would fulfill the patriotism of the governments of Sermo's nations,
The Sermo Senate hereby enacts resolution #012, "Abolition of Space Annexation".

We move to dismiss this resolution as it has gone straight to voting before making a discussion topic. Also towards the obvious bias in this entire thing. It seems like you want space to be free just so you can go in and take it.

Considering that space in its infinite void is outside our regional boundaries, this would be something to take up with the WA, rather than the regional senate.

I'm saying that this is, for now, Sermo-only. Plus I don't have enough endorsements to write up something in the WA.Darth GW7 wrote:Considering that space in its infinite void is outside our regional boundaries, this would be something to take up with the WA, rather than the regional senate.

I'm having them both in one topic, for the sake of time.Baelgaria wrote:We move to dismiss this resolution as it has gone straight to voting before making a discussion topic. I don't see any bias. Take me out of the equation in your Synavia-hating little eyes and then see how sensible this seems.
Oh, and I know that Hippo was joking. That's why I put the tongue guy there. It just occurred to me and reminded me of a UN resolution a few years back doing this exact same thing.
EDIT: Oh, I realize now that some LUNKHEADS have voted already. I clearly stated when the voting was to begin. I will erase the poll and bring it back when voting starts.

Why would you bother putting a poll when it specifically says to make two threads, one for voting, one for discussion?

I'm a very busy person and I can't count on being at the computer at the correct time to make a voting thread. Or even the same day for that matter.Premier Annenkov wrote:Why would you bother putting a poll when it specifically says to make two threads, one for voting, one for discussion?

Even though space is so oh-so large and filled with objects, it's a evil thing to claim even an asteroid? Huh.

I see several loopholes in this.
There is openings for a government run corporation that is not officially government run to claim entire celestial bodies and the like.
According to this, a government could just claim all but one square inch of a celestial body. seeing as it's not the entire surface area, this resolution does not cover that.
Also according to this, even warring nations would be forced to work together under the Sermo flag in any space-related venture concerning mining, exploration, research, ect.
There is also a bias in this, It has obviously stemmed from your horrible "Synavia goes Lunar" thing as so Subtley mentioned in
Also the fact that you went straight to voting and then changed it to discussion been though you still do not have the proper title suffix.
All of these holes prove that this is a hastily written and not very acceptable resolution.

thus, saying that you just want to go and have the nations who worked very hard to get into space to move aside so the smaller nations(you) can get into space.BELIEVING: That large nations holding power over planets and moons would make it difficult for smaller nations to carry out a space program,

1. About the first thing: I will change it so that instead of saying nation, it will say group or organization.
2. Which would recieve a very sharp chastisement from the Sermo Senate.
3. Of course. What's wrong with that?
4. There is no bias. Yes, the large nations have worked hard to get into space, but the small ones have worked harder. I'm not saying that the large nations should get out of the way, I'm just saying that they shouldn't interfere with the doings of small nations. Space needs to be an equal territory, and all nations should have a chance to take part in the exploration of it.
5. The format thing, I CLEARLY stated when the voting was to begin and end. Three stupidheads decided to vote when they weren't supposed to.

1.Still leaves it open to individuals, ala real life. And you haven't changed it, why?President Newlark wrote:Baelgaria wrote:I see several loopholes in this.

2.The Sermo Senate doesn't really enforce anything at the moment, nothing really happened when Hippostania was condemned or you blatantly stated that the Sermo Senate didn't matter.
3.Nation A is warring with Nation B on Earth.
Nation A and Nation B have lunar bases nearby eachother.
Nation A gets desperate in the war and blows up Nation B's Lunar base.
This would not have happened if they were not forced to work together.
4.So you're saying that, for example, you have worked harder on your fledgling space program than Avinstratus has on his massive orbital craft?
5.There's still a poll, and "NO VOTING YET" is not needed in the title.
Re: Abolition of Space Annexation [SS#012][DISCUSSION, NO VOTING YET]
I'm pretty sure that world assembly regulations must forbid the claiming of celestial bodies for nations.
Space is the final frontier, it should belong to no-one. Like antarctica, it should be reserved for expeditions and research only.

I agree, but like Antarctica, the scientists and researchers there must be in the name of a group, be it nation or region.Darth GW7 wrote:I'm pretty sure that world assembly regulations must forbid the claiming of celestial bodies for nations.

Alright, this resolution is now defunct for an inspecified amount of time or, alternately, until I can rewrite it.Baelgaria wrote://You're still ignoring the problems with YOUR resolution
