Union of Midlands

Today, the goverment of Hippostania has proposed the formation of an economic and political Union in the Midlands area of Sermo. Since ost of the wars in Sermo have been fought in the Midlands area, and we believe that an union would strengthen the relations and trade between all countries located the Midlands.
If you're thinking ''NEVAH, I'LL LOSE MY SOVEREIGNITY!'', that is not the case. This union is not a federation, and it will not become a federation. The purpose of this union is to increase trade between countries by creating a single internal market whose purpose is to guarantee free movement goods, capital, services and people between the countries in the Midlands Union. We also believe that will prevent all further wars in the Midlands.

All nations located in Midlands can, and are encouraged to join the union!

If other countries are willing to join, Frenzland will be happy to join this union.
We just hope that this doesn't create a divide between the north, south and midlands.

You don't have to worry about the divide between the midlands and the south.

I mean really all that's left is me, Baelgaria and a bunch of in-active countries.

This sounds fine and dandy with me and my boys down in the Gentlemans club, Nulendbund shall join this union and also suggests that this union uses the Nulend Franc as it's currency as it is worth the most in the midlands. We will change the name of the currency to "Midland Dollars" or something else that fits well with the Union that everyone can agree upon.

No, as I said, we don't want to create a rift between us and the rest of Sermo. I'll continue to use the Seero.

While this is an interesting development, I find myself wondering just what the political gains for Hippostania would be from this arrangement. I understand that the Council might have a slight bias in their leanings from our shortlived confrontation with the Hippostanians over our land, but the view they presented there was merely operation for their own gain, as such that will clearly be the case here.

There is also the issue of the influence which the larger countries will be able to exert upon those smaller than them, possibly via a network which they use to control and regulate the purchases available to their populations. This might be conceived as my being paranoid, yet given the influence of the Hippostanians in this, I have reason to be such.

I really shouldn't be meddling in these affairs, I think, but I want my opinion known.
I completely agree with Apyx. Synavia has experienced firsthand the overpowering hunger for power Hippostania exudes, and I don't want the same thing happening to, say, Kyzl as happened to us, but in a far more subliminal and, therefore, powerful manner.

You should know that we would never let Hippostania control us.
This is mutually beneficial for all nations involved, and even if the economics don't work out in the end, any form of international co-operation can only be a good thing.
